Learning becomes appealing when accompanied with colorful illustrations, especially for the children. There is no shortage of research projects whose aim is to "explain religion" or the "evolution of religion." That is why the Pakistani publishers Maqbool Books provides stories for children from the Holy Qur'an.
Children Stories from the Holy Qur'an are innumerable and highly engaging if understood well. However, not much has been done to present them in an appealing way to the audience that needs them most — children.
In 2009, Pakistani publishers Maqbool Books brought the idea to the Sharjah International Book Fair with their English collection of Stories of Prophets in the Qur'an Stories series.
This year, His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah awarded the publisher for its Qur'an Stories in the best-selling series in foreign language. This is the first international award for any Pakistani publisher.
"I find today's children lacking in morals and values. And this has disappointed me a lot," explains Babar Ahmad, author and publisher of the series while explaining how the idea of simplifying the stories came about. "We wanted something to engage the children and hold their attention while explaining to them the details of their religion," he said.
The collection has been designed to enhance the reading experience for children and their parents. "The illustrations encourage this even more as they will hold the child's interest and instill the concepts more effectively," explains Babar.
"The language used in each story is very simple so that children of a very young age can comprehend them. These stories will create an interest in children on the Qur'an and encourage them to explore it on their own when they are older," he adds.
In the recent edition, children can find the stories of most famous prophets such as Adam (AS), Ibrahim (AS) Issa (AS) and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) among others. The books are available at the book fair for Dh35 each.
Maqbool Books has also published other children's literature on subjects ranging from historic personalities of the sub-continent to the funny contemporary stories of the East. The fair will run until November 17.
