Airtel Ghana has launched Facebook Zero, a product which enables Airtel Ghana subscribers to browse the world's largest social media site for free. The Facebook Zero product offers free access to text version only of Facebook (mobile).   Airtel Ghana's Facebook Zero offers a faster mobile browsing experience. Airtel subscribers simply need to log on to 0.facebook.com to enjoy the service.

Marketing Director of Airtel Ghana, Oare Ojeikere explains that with the Facebook Zero package, Airtel Ghana does not charge the user for data access on text-only pages; however users will pay for data when viewing photos and videos.

According to him,

"Airtel Ghana recognizes that Facebook is among the most visited websites for Ghanaians and it is indeed their preferred social media site; that is why we thought we should offer those who love to follow trending topics the opportunity to do so whiles spending very little on data". Mr. Ojeikere added that Airtel Ghana is aware that their subscribers form a considerable portion of the over 1.2 million Facebook users in Ghana, saying also that "we have said before that what we do at Airtel Ghana is to look at the various uses to which our customers use our services and then we design appropriate products to suit their lifestyle and usage, so we are thrilled that we have gone live with this service at this time", he said.

Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira added that Airtel Ghana, will continue to study the data and voice usage of its customers and will design appropriate products to suit their everyday needs.

"We believe that one of the key ways of keeping our customers and getting new ones on it is to develop products that they need for everyday usage, and Facebook has become one of the integral online habits of our people so we believe Facebook Zero will be well received by our customers", he concluded.
