Based on what I'm seeing in the grocery and drugstore fliers this weekend, the biggest trend to watch this week for the grocery and drugstore promotions in the Monroe, Mich., area, are the 10 for $10 sales.
You can't take for granted that a 10 for $10 promotion is a deal. I've noticed lately those those lists are skewed with items that are snacks, are shorted servings as compared to the regular line product, or would normally cost $1 anyway.
But the ad fliers this week are listing grocery items not usually seen at that price point including 2-liter pops, mac and cheese, facial tissue, salad dressing and canned fruit.
The other trending topic this week involves Easter candy and gifts. Be warned: Even the "sale" prices for candy are higher than one might expect. I have a detailed discussion on how to celebrate Easter on a budget that you'll want to review before you purchase any holiday treats and gifts.
You'll also find canned goods and pantry items starting to show up in the promotions. This is typical just before Easter, and is definitely a stock up situation.
