Discussing Blazers-Lakers contests of yore while preparing for the first game of the 2012-13 season.
Tomorrow at this time you will have in your hands the very first game preview of the 2012-13 season. Since the tilt is Blazers-Lakers, it seems appropriate to preface it with a look at the history of that series. L.A. has been responsible for many of Portland's most painful playoff moments. The plucky Blazers have stuck it to the Lakers in the Rose Garden since time immemorial no matter the status of the respective teams. Both of these trends, plus a couple playoff series that bucked them in favor of the Blazers, have served to keep the flame of enmity alive in the hearts of Blazers fans.
Yes, Wednesday's game is the first of the new year. Yes, the Blazers are expected to be down this year while the Lakers are expected to contend for conference championships and titles. Scrub all that away and this is still Blazers-Lakers, one heck of a way to start things off.
What are your clearest, most poignant, or most exciting memories from Portland-L.A. matchups? Let us know, and give us an idea why this matchup is special for Portland. Is it just because of the Laker Mystique, or is there more to it? Tell your stories in the comment section below, and let's do the ramp-up to this season right!
