Not long ago state officials were warning Texans that it was too dangerous to visit Mexico. Yet more Americans are venturing south of the Rio Grande River anyway.

According to the AP, "Mexican tourism officials say there has been a 5.3 percent increase in the number of international visitors to Mexico from January to April. The rise comes after the Texas Department of Public Safety released a travel warning discouraging students in March from visiting Mexico on spring break, citing an increase in drug violence.

" … Mexico's Tourism Department says more than half of the 4,098,750 tourists who visited Mexico in the first third of the year were from the U.S. The number of Americans was up slightly from 2011."

Whaddya think?

– Should the DPS withdraw its warning about Mexico?

– Are some areas of that country always safe or unsafe? If so, which ones?

– Are dangers in Mexico about the same as many other countries?

– Have you had any good or bad experiences in Mexico recently?
