Our friends at the Dive the Coast are gearing up for an exciting weekend of diving. Nearly 25 divers from throughout the state of California will be diving this weekend to kick off Dive The Coast 2013. Dive the Coast is scheduled to take place in June 2013 and is planning to be the largest mass dive in history. Hundreds of scuba divers are organizing to dive as much of the California coastline as possbible while raising money for conservations groups. The idea for Dive the Coast originated in Santa Cruz in August 2011, and now dive clubs, dive shops, and non-profits are forming partnerships and creating events building up to the mass dive in 2013.

This weekend teams of divers will be getting in the water near Monterey Bay and the Santa Cruz in order to practice distance and relay. Dive the Coast founder Kim White will coordinating the dives at Breakwater in Monterey this Saturday. Some divers will head north into the bay, and the others east or west. Each set of divers will fin kick at a depth of 20′-25′ with a surface marker buoy attached to the lead dive. On Sunday, divers will meet at Main Beach in Santa Cruz to conduct a four mile relay to Pleasure Point.

There will be plenty more events between this weekend's kick off and next year's record breaking event. BlooSee is happy to supporting Dive the Coast in their outreach efforts. If you are interested in creating or participating event, contact Kim White at kim@divethecoast.com. We will keep you updated as more events are organized.
