Patrick Ewing to Coach Against the Knicks - Buckets Over Broadway ...

Patrick Ewing has been waiting for years to get a chance to be a head coach in the NBA, little did he know he would be making his debut against the team that has his names in the rafters.

Three days after upsetting the New York Knicks (1-3) 102-97 in the Garden, the Knicks travel down to Charlotte to play their second game of the season against the Bobcats (3-2).

Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford remains hospitalized after being admitted for chest pains and requiring two stents in his heart. We wish him the best and a speedy recovery. He is told to be resting comfortably and is expected to rejoin the team soon.

As for tonight's game,  Ewing will be calling the shots against his former team in his head-coaching debut. Knicks fans are in panic mode after suffering a three-game losing streak after their opening night win against the Bucks. Ironically playing against Ewing's team, the Knicks frontcourt is desperate.

Tyson Chandler, the heart of the Knicks defense and an exclamation point on the offensive glass, is out for 4-6 weeks with a leg injury. This quickly makes new Knicks Andrea Bargnani pivotal in the Knicks frontcourt, along with struggling Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin.

Ewing has always expressed his desire to coach in the NBA and James Dolan and the Knicks never showed the slightest interest in him. Ewing, a longtime assistant, started his coaching career with the Houston Rockets Orlando Magic, where he spent 2007-2012. He was a huge part of Dwight Howard's development and success, including the 2009 NBA Finals appearance.

It's going to be weird for Knicks fans to watch their franchise's best and most famous player try and beat their team. The Knicks need a win in the worst way, so for a few hours Knicks fans don't want to see Ewing crack a smile.
