A scary moment took place tonight during Game 5 of the 2013 World Series when Boston Red Sox outfielder Daniel Nava had his bat break, sending shards of wood flying all over, including into the neck of Nava himself.

After Nava swung and broke his bat on an Adam Wainwright pitch, a large chunk of wood went flying upwards towards Nava, directly towards the right side of his neck, striking him in the process.

Nava was of course immediately checked on by the Red Sox's training staff, though, appeared to be okay after the scare as he remained in the game. It does not appear Nava was punctured from the wood, though, it's not known if he was cut.

Thankfully, nothing serious happened nor did any of the wooden pieces fly into his eyes (or the catchers/umpires, for that matter).

Also – completely off topic, but great camera work by Fox on the slow-motion replay. One of the few times Fox gets a thumbs up for their camera work this World Series.
