Former Buckeye star tight end Jake Stoneburner is due for a major increase in playing time in the coming weeks and maybe for the rest of the year. With starting tight end Jermichael Finley sidelined for the foreseeable future with a scary neck injury, the starting position was up for grabs until coach Mike McCarthy announced Stoneburner as the starter. Stoneburner, who signed with Green Bay after going undrafted this past year, has appeared in only one game but is slated to start this week against Minnesota.

Stoneburner spent four years in Colombus. Recruited by Jim Tressell, Stoneburner was a key player in Urban Meyer's undefeated first season last year. Stoneburner was third on the team in receptions and yards while his four touchdowns were second best on the team.

Stoneburner will be thrust into one of the top offenses in the NFL, headed by star QB Aaron Rodgers. Prior to his injury, Finley had 300 yards receiving and three touchdowns, proof that the Packers utilize their tight ends as well as any other team in the league. Keep an eye on Stoneburner as he is sure to get a good amount of increased attention from Rodgers and the offense this week.
