Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk is earmarked for WWE SummerSlam ...

The Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match will reportedly take place at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) on Aug. 18, 2013, in Los Angeles, California.

For the fifth year in a row, WWE will invade the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, with its annual SummerSlam Brock Lesnar will be in the main event against a man who has been in the main event in three of the past five years.

I'm not entirely sure what all that means, if anything, but it sounded cool.

Anyway, executives at WWE pay both Lesnar and Punk far too much money not to put them in the marquee match at such a major event. With the two sharing such close ties to Paul Heyman, the storyline to get them to a match against each other is simply too easy to conjure.

We don't know exactly what that story will entail but we do know there was electricity in the air when the two briefly shared a ring just last night (June 17) on Monday Night Raw in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Lesnar arrived, F-5'ed, and left. Watch him do it here.

What's interesting is this ensures Punk, who has spent far too much of his career on the undercard despite his status as a top star, will return to the main event in a feud that will no doubt get much more play than whatever WWE champion John Cena is involved with. So, while Punk was champion for 434 days, he was still working the undercard and taking a backseat to Cena's doings but now the role is reversed. Cena has the title, both the WWE championship and the "Being John Cena" championship, and yet Punk will be the headlining act.

Even if he got there simply by virtue of being Lesnar's opponent.

It takes two to tango either which way you slice it and according to reports, Lesnar vs. Punk is on for SummerSlam. That's all that matters, right?
