Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us may be one of the most highly anticipated exclusives in production and to add to that excitement, the announcement of a new prequel comic and art book has just been… announced. For someone like myself, a lover of all additional elements to games that do not fall under the category of DLC, this is quite the exciting news. We all know I was pretty stoked to hear about the Bioshock Infinite art book.
The prequel comic is said to follow the story of Ellie, our young female protagonist, who "has grown up in a postpandemic world, shuttled between military orphanages in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and resigned to the fact that when she's old enough, she'll be channeled into the army or left to fend for herself—until she meets an older girl determined to find a third way out." Apparently, this will have some of the elements in it that will lead to Ellie meeting up with Joel, the male protagonist of the game. The prequel is said to be released in a 4 issue mini-series and is currently going to be under the title The Last Of Us: American Dreams.
The art book has very few details right now but we do know that it will be released in a deluxe hardcover format to coincide with the release of the game. In the book will most likely be a cavalcade of wonderful behind the scenes and in depth looks at what will make it into the finished project. I'm always a fan of these as if gives the full experience of the game another level.
Unfortunately, with the game itself, we don't have any sort of confirmed release date. Just a hopeful 2013 window, but even that hasn't been truly confirmed. However, The Last of Us: American Dreams should be out sometime in Spring 2013, so at least you will have that to look forward to. Otherwise, check out the amazing extended E3 gameplay footage, if you haven't already done so a dozen times. Even still, check it out again.
