News and rumors are swirling lately about new music from some of the freshest faces on the mainstream country music circuit, including Scotty McCreery, Kristen Kelly, and Austin Webb.
Scotty McCreery is keeping awfully busy these days, between spending time on the road with Brad Paisley and studying as a college student at North Carolina State University. Now, as we've recently discovered, Scotty is also occupying a recording studio, selecting songs for his upcoming sophomore album.
"We're still looking for songs because that's what the second album is about for me," he says. I'm going to be picking and choosing. Country music is about the songs."
McCreery released his first holiday album last week, entitled 'Christmas with Scotty McCreery.' He's been playing for thousands of people a night while on tour with Paisley as well, but now, he's ready to take his career to the next level with this new album.
"This last year I've had sold-out shows, I've won awards and stuff, but I haven't had that huge monster hit yet. That's a song I really need to have."
Scotty is working with producer Mark Bright on his second studio disc, which does not have a release date as of yet. We'll let you know if/when a date becomes available.
In other news, Kristen Kelly has announced that she will be releasing a self-titled EP on October 30 via Arista Nashville. Her current single, "Ex-Old Man," which she wrote along with Paul Overstreet, is doing very well on Billboard's country airplay chart. As is the case with her single, Kristen co-wrote all four songs on the EP, and, as she's described, each track is very personal.
"I am so excited to share more of my new music with my fans," she said. "This music is a culmination of years of blood, sweat and tears. Every song is a chapter in the story of my life."
Again, 'Kristen Kelly' will be available on October 30 on Arista Nashville.
And finally, it was formally announced late last week that up-and-coming singer/songwriter Austin Webb signed with Streamsound Records. The label was formed by producer Byron Gallimore and industry executive Jim Wilkes, opening in February with the signing of Jaida Dreyer. The label has an exclusive distribution deal for its artists through Sony Music Nashville, while Gallimore has produced chart-topping singles for the likes of Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Sugarland, and Lauren Alaina.
As for Austin Webb, his debut single, "It's All Good," will be released in December. For the latest news on Austin, log on to his official website.
