The French Loaf, located just outside of Grandview, is a cute little bakery that has many items to choose from. Last October, Dustin Olive and Marijon Lococo bought it and became the fourth owners of the restaurant. They have been adding new items while keeping the classics that everyone had grown to love. When I stopped in this week, they had a new item available, Fruit Flips in Apple or Cherry. I picked the Apple flavor ($2.95).

It's a big dessert and would be a nice alternative to a pie to take on a picnic. It's 6 inches long and 4 inches wide, large enough to share. I ate it at room temperature. The pastry is flaky and chewy. The filling of apple slices, cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg is handmade and has a wonderful aroma. The whole thing is drizzled on top with vanilla icing. Really delicious. If you're in the neighborhood, give them a try!

The French Loaf is located at 1576 W. 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30am to 7pm, Saturday from 7:30am to 6pm and Sunday from 8am to 5pm. They are closed Mondays. Like them on Facebook or visit them online at www.frenchloafbakery.com.
