Teens Perspective On Interracial Relationships
Jun 30th 2012, 02:14

"Basically, I don't discriminate at what type of girls to date. To be honest race is not that important. Yes, it's a factor, but not a big one. Of course, I would rather say Black but, I'll probably end up with a White girl. It's just from what I've seen, Black girls have that "you can't tell me nothing, I know what I'm doing" type attitude. Not every man wants to deal with it. It's not me being weak, it's just that nobody wants somebody they have to literally yell at to get something simple heard. That's just the truth." – Jordan, 17

Teens have begun to speak louder and louder. Every day there is a new trending topic to discuss. Some topics may be worth continuing or just irrelevant to keep debating about. However, interracial relationships have become an unstoppable debate, "Does race matter when looking to be within a relationship." While talking to several teens, I was able to gain a point of view from all ages within high school and races. Some ethnicities defended their opposite sex but others ridiculed them. As some justified their statements their opponents helped them prove their claim right. But is it true that African-American relationships have become extent as they have lost their true passion and meaning. Have African- American women truly been over looked within today's society because of stereotypes? Are we truly perceived as just a ghetto loud talking body and no longer a brain of intelligence?
While entering the world of diversity, we were all born as humans first and race second. Therefore, when looking upon one to love we have to understand that we all have a story, but one's story is not the worlds. Thus, the stereotypical ideas and portrayals of African-American women should hold no value. Some men are unable to transform their beliefs that all African-American women are the same. Besides "conniving and manipulative" to many that is all that we, African-American woman, are.
However, the stereotypes are well enough for some African-American men or other ethnicities to head to. Hence, dating in their race is "not an option." As many of the young men spoke about their experiences with African-American young ladies, they spoke about it as though they were reliving the moments. "Their difficult to talk to…unwilling to adjust…they are power hungry so if it's not their way then it is most defiantly not yours."After those words, the room began to get heated. Anger was boiling. The young ladies faces within the room began to shift, and as the young men tried to proceed they stopped every word from reaching its full length. "This is what I'm talking about…unable to say what you have to say," one of the young men stated.  Through some relationships, men have only gained one interpretation, so they have an automatic setback. They do not understand that in actuality ladies are not all one. Consequently, they adventure out, rejecting the morals of their history. They are convinced that taking a detour is justifiable and what was once foreign has become their everyday lives.
